Coronavirus – Covid 19 Update

Dear Conference Attendees,

The last few weeks have probably been a challenge for most of us around the world.  We hope you are keeping yourselves well in mind, body and spirit to stay as safe and healthy as possible.

We are sorry to officially announce the 2020 conference has been postponed, for a year, until 14th to 16th May 2021.

We would like to take this opportunity to share our journey with you, to explain how the situation has unfolded for us and the challenging situation we now find ourselves in.

As soon as the forecast impact of COVID-19 became apparent, 5 weeks ago in the UK, we wanted to act responsibly and postpone the 2020 NLP Conference.  The threat to the health and safety of all of you who attend the Conference was (and is) our most important concern.

Taking on an event of this magnitude comes with risk, which is why the conference was insured.

Over the past few weeks, we have been faithfully following the instructions we had been given by the brokers to protect the conference and everyone who attends it, on the understanding that our compliance would mean the event insurers would step up and cover our losses.

This has put us in a hugely embarrassing position and we’ve had to compromise on so many of our own values. It has meant vague messages about following government guidelines and far less clarity than we would have wanted in our communications with you, in order to do our best to protect the future of the conference.

Unfortunately, we have now been informed that our insurance company will not be covering us for the costs or losses, despite assurances to the contrary.

WHAT NOW?

Each Conference takes our small team 12 months of combined effort and considerable financial investment to create and run. We were 10 months in to arranging the 2020 conference and have already incurred irrecoverable costs (eg hotel deposit, staff costs, insurance!) with nothing to show for it.

This means we have two choices:

  1. Go into liquidation, which would mean nobody wins – we will be unable to refund everyone in full (because of the irrecoverable costs already incurred) and the only winners will be the liquidators.

  2. Work together to ensure that the 2021 conference can still take place

Given our desire to serve our community, our preference is to transfer the 2020 Conference programme, as far as possible, to 2021. Connirae has already confirmed she will join us and deliver her Masterclass on Friday 14th May 2021 and many of the other presenters have confirmed too.

REFUND REQUESTED BUT NOT YET GIVEN

As you have already requested a refund for your 2020 conference place, we are inviting you to transfer your ticket to 2021 instead.

It would mean you have already secured your place at the 2021 conference for the price you paid this year (especially significant if you paid the exclusive conference rate or Super Early Bird rate).

Please let us know, within 7 days, if you are happy for us to transfer your ticket to 2021.

REFUND NOT REQUESTED

As you still hold a valid ticket, we will transfer it to 2021 conference.

It would mean you have a place at the 2021 conference for the price you paid this year (especially significant if you paid the exclusive conference rate or Super Early Bird rate).

Please let us know, within 7 days, if you are happy for us to transfer your ticket to 2021.

We know the conference is important to the community and we know this is a huge ask, especially in current circumstances where all our futures are so uncertain.

This has been an enforced time of change and reflection and we believe that, as a community, our strength of spirit, ability to adapt and the resources we already possess will allow us to find the inspiration we need to continue… and emerge stronger and even better prepared for the future.

Thank you
